Yinson Renewables (“YR”) employees recently volunteered with The Conservation Volunteers (“TCV”) to actively contribute to the creation, improvement, and maintenance of green spaces in London. The volunteering work focused on enhancing a selected nature education centre which is open to the London local community.
On 9 November 2023, YR colleagues in the UK, along with one member of the Group’s senior management joined in the event at the Railway Fields Nature Reserve, Harringay, London.
The Yinsonites undertook a range of activities, including weeding, landscape maintenance to protect tree saplings, removal of invasive ivy, levelling of ground and herb beds, pond cleaning, and meadow scything at the designated green space.
Reflecting on the experience, Mariana Peddle, VP of YR Operations stated, “This volunteering experience truly felt like giving back to the community. The natural space where we volunteered, while located in the heart of a built-up London neighbourhood, supports a variety of wildlife. The space also serves as a focal point for local schools which attend educational sessions and actively involve the neighbourhood children in hands-on activities organised by dedicated volunteers. The opportunity to play a part in preserving and enhancing a space so closely tied to the local community, providing younger generations the chance to appreciate nature and learn about the environment, made this experience exceptionally fulfilling.”
Miguel Calvete, Senior Construction Project Manager said, “The volunteering experience, though physically demanding, was highly gratifying. Working alongside colleagues and friends added significant value to the entire activity. I would definitely take up another volunteering opportunity if it comes up.”
Ivan Tan, Global Head, Corporate Finance & Treasury shared, “Taking a day away from our regular corporate life to engage in something entirely different was truly invigorating. This change of setting not only allowed us to give back to the community but also provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds with our colleagues in an unconventional setting. The work was strenuous but deeply satisfying, fostering a renewed appreciation for the volunteers who dedicate their personal time to such meaningful endeavours.”
TCV, a registered charity organisation in England and Scotland, focuses on connecting people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community.
